“Supporting a community for unique adults with special needs.”
As a group of parents to amazing special needs individuals, we are learning about the deficiencies in long-term options for those not on a neurotypical life path. The ultimate goal of any parenting journey is to instill basic skills, confidence, happiness, and the opportunity for success and independence for our children. While we support and nourish those we care for through childhood and adolescence, many parents are left wondering what happens later. In an attempt to bridge the gap between special needs adults living their lives under the roof of a family caregiver or choosing the typical institutional option, our organization is on a mission to create something new.
This vision includes but is not limited to, establishing a community of different housing options - each suited to individual residents' needs and desires. In a space where safety is of the utmost importance, there will be support staff onsite 24/7 along with security measures on multiple levels. Each cul de sac of individual homes will be centered around an activities center, furthering the residents’ bond with the community, sense of belonging, and opportunity to be socially active. The ultimate goal of our organization is to create a space where each individual has every support system in place required to lead a healthy and happy life, nurtured by family and friends.
A Vision for
their Future
As we begin the journey, our nonprofit will be leaning heavily into fundraising for this unfathomable undertaking. From acquiring land to working with the state in regards to licensing, and even in designing the facilities - The Ground Up Project’s success rests squarely on educating those around us of the unique challenges special needs adults face. Education will be paired hand in hand with fundraising, trusting the support of our community, and making the most of our group’s dreams.
